ABOUT DUSTIN ORONA PHOTOGRAPHY
Dustin Orona Photography is the official Track Photographer for Remington Park as of the beginning of 2007, but the experience in photography and horseracing that comes with the newly formed company extends far beyond that time.
Dustin Orona has been in the racing industry since his birth in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1981. His father Walter was a jockey for eighteen years and his mother Tamara was a third generation horsemen and the daughter of Nebraska trainer Don Conyers. The extended family for the Oronaís and Conyersí, has also included trainers, jockeys, agents and racing officials as well. He has been a track photographer, worked track maintenance, headed horses in the starting gate, and mucked his share of stalls as well.
Dustin Orona began as a photographer for Reed Palmer Photography in the year 2000 and has been in love with it since day one. Under the tutelage of Reed Palmer, he has worked at Remington Park, Lone Star Park, Louisiana Downs, Ellis Park, and Derby week í06 at Churchill Downs. Dustin regards Breedersí Cup 2004 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie as one of the highlights of his time being the Track Photographer for Reed Palmer Photography, and notes that Derby week in 2006 watching Barbaro cross the finish line while standing on the racetrack was simply incredible.
Dustin has attended The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, as well as Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, where he studied Photography and business at the latter. While in school he completed an internship with David Fitzgerald-McNeese & Associates under both David McNeese and Brandon Snider where he learned lighting techniques, high-end portraiture, and commercial photography at itís finest.
Dustin also recognizes and cherishes the memories and opportunities to work with photographers such as Lou Hodges, Jr., Erin Palmer, Natalie Ardoin-Glyshaw, Kris Davis, Skip Dickstein, as well for they have all taught him something along the road.
Dustin Orona Photography, LLC was started in 2007 as Dustin was given the opportunity to start a branch of photography on his own at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Dustin Orona has had his photography published in nearly all of the Racing industry publications, including The Daily Racing Form, The Thoroughbred Times, The Bloodhorse Magazine, The Homestretch Magazine for Oklahoma Horsemen, Texas Thoroughbred Magazine, as well as many advertisements for racetracks, stud farms and numerous racing associations alike. Among other clients for whom Dustin has done work for in recent years include Hog Dog, Inc., Wormy Dog Saloon, Downtown Glass, Levelland Productions, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Mandiís Ministries to name a few.
